Carrie Blake Park
A playground for young and old

The spinoff was fun to watch; everyone seemed to have a good time.

On this beautiful Monday Carrie Blake park was full of activities. Often the Guy Cole Center Building is open. Something is going on: - a Flea Market, or garage sale, or a seminar, or even as it was last week, a Spin-Off! During the Shepherds' Fair on Memorial Day, the Building was host to several activities; there were lamb shishkabobs for sale from the kitchen, demonstrations and guidance on spinning and carding and other processes . All necessary to convert the wool from the newly sheared sheep into yarn for knitting. There were also beautiful examples of the finished products, such as gossamer wool stoles from alpacas to oooh and aaah over...

The City of Sequim has a reclaimed water project here at the Park. The ponds, creeks and fountain are created with reclaimed gray water. It is still not allowed for drinking though. There are signs everywhere that say Do NOT Drink the water. The ducks and geese survive though, and of course the water is used by the city landscaping crews for the park's plantings, too. They have even installed 'resting benches' for the area's many senior walkers.

There are sailboat races on Sequim Bay on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; meet at the John Wayne Marina. If sailing is like 'standing in a cold shower shredding hundred dollar bills', then there's another way to enjoy racing: the Sailboat Races at the Reclamation Pond. These are radio controlled sailboats, operated by some big boys. There's a great deal of time and effort put into the creation of these boats by their owners. The race sounds very official, with a countdown, boats assembling at the starting line, and "three...two...one, they're off" and around the course... Mother duck and her two little ones went out to investigate, too...
