Last year, at this time:
a news item:
Threats of drought are everywhere in this area - the water tables are lower; the riverbeds are only 50% of their usual level for this time of year. Let's hope for a few more rainy days - and for April showers...
This year the snowpack is heavier than last year, in the mountains; but rainy nights here in the northern shelf of the Olympics will bring us to Flower Peninsula USA's strongest feature:
Flowers everywhere!
and there may yet be a drought of this summer.
The Skagit Valley's annual Tulip Festival is just ahead a few weeks.. April 5 - 21. Arrangements are already underway for one of nature's fantastic shows, as the tulip fields come to flower. It's just a short couple of auto - hours away from Sequim and a trip worth taking. Communities in that area offer many entertainments and events to help in the enjoyment of the phenomenon.
Flowers are here too, mostly at the stores and nurseries, for sale... and heading into the local gardens already!
Many merchants are selling the northwest and Canadian-grown blooming annuals that so enhance our gardens... and many Sequimmers have availed themselves of this 'instant Spring' moment. The trees are blossoming out here too, leaves and blooms heralding the warmer days ahead in these, the waning days of winter.
