The winter entrance to Petals; in summer this is more colorful and fragrant due to the plantings from the nearby herb gardens.

Petals Cafe
Port Townsend

This Friday we went for a special lunch to the Petals Cafe, which is a fine local restaurant. People enjoy the excellent cuisine and attractive surroundings. Petals Garden Cafe is the dining room of the Cedarbrook Herb Farm on south Sequim Avenue. They are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week from 11 in the morning. From 2 p.m. on you can get an 'Afternoon Tea" with sorbet, finger sandwiches, petit-fours, scones - an elegant High Tea. The owners are from Australia, and bring a touch of unique-ness to the menu, offering items like bangers 'n mash, ploughman's lunch, and a selection of vegetarian entrees, too. This place is a special Sequim treat. This thriving business is for sale now, in 2004, and we certainly hope that the excellent offerings and service will be carried on by the new owner.

Sunshine again!

Port Townsend

The elk light is lit; the elk with the radio collar is within a half mile.

en-route to Port Townsend, the Highway 101 Elk warning light was flashing!
A collared elk is within a half mile, but we didn't see the herd this time.

The Hole-In-The-Wall, an earring shop, is a very slim business.

- On Sunday we decided to head towards Port Townsend for our initial exploration of that Victorian city. There was a stiff breeze coming across the waters of Puget Sound which made for a brief trip, but we did get some snapshots posted here, just click; and a sense of the flavor of the major waterfront drive, Water Street . One of the truly memorable buildings is called the hole-in-the-wall - a very narrow building one door and one window wide which houses an earring business. It reminds me very much of some of the buildings I saw in Amsterdam - where the buildings owners were taxed by the frontage measurement of their building. This makes for much tall skinny construction. I am sure we'll come back to Port Townsend again, preferably when the wind is not so cold.

Friend Erwin Fuller has created a photoshow of Port Townsend pictures and we invite you to enjoy them. It really is a beautiful city.

a fine bowl of clam chowder can be had at Snug Harbor

On the way home we stopped for a bowl of clam chowder and some crab at one of our favorite spots, Snug Harbor Cafe, at Discovery Bay. Made this whole roundtrip with only a few raindrops on the windshield. All-in-all, a good trip.
