Hope the salmon make it up the rivers, soon.

That leads to one of this weekend's activities- sport fishing. The limit is 4 salmon. And they are in the river now!

it's salmon time in the river

Last weekend it was Time For the the Year 2002 Dungeness River Festival.

Held at the Railroad Bridge Park, the annual celebration honoring the River's ecological effect in our community brought out lots of people. Activities were planned for Saturday and Sunday at the brand new Audubon Center; This is the first designated Audubon Center in the State of Washington, for: walking, picnics, fishing, birdwatching, bicycling, and access to Nature... This new interpretive facility will help teach people about this Dungeness Watershed we share. There is a library inside the bulding and many animal mounts - come and see how big a cougar really is... The owls too could carry off a small cat. If you've never been there, be sure to put visiting the Center in your travel plans.

the sabretooth tiger sculpted of metal the topiary horse is lifesize

Right here in the center of town at the Rainshadow Nursery is another very "Sequim-ish" work of art. This lifelike sabre-toothed tiger, a piece of garden art has joined their famed life-size topiary horse. The nursery is featuring the flowering kale and other "winter blooms" for the garden, available now.

We've had the first chills of early morning; now it is time to plant the tulip bulbs for next Springs' flowers. Summer is just a memory - the temperatures are much cooler in the mornings these days. After yesterday's rainfall the day dawned sunny, skies washed clean and crisp; but then the clouds began re-forming. They were magnificent billowing cumulus which would blot out the sunshine and cast a chill in the air, interspersed with brilliant sunshine.

This week in Sequim:

Museum calendars are available for the year 2003

The Museum has begun selling their 2003 calendars, featuring some of their old photographs. Both volumes of the Pioneers of Sequim's stories are also available.

The Friends of the Library have their monthly sale of donated and discarded books Saturday. That's always such a big hit; they have to limit the number of people allowed in the Friends' building behind the library; too many at one time and the Fire Marshall would get excited. So we wait in line for our turn, ever conscious that others are also waiting...

The Saturday Farmers Markets and Faires are closed for the season now. They'll be back in May. Now we go indoors for the holiday Bazaars.

We still have some green tomatoes and zucchini in our little garden, and some "last roses of summer".
