Changeable weather

Thrift stores here in Sequim-

our tulips blooming now!

It started out just as sunny and beautiful as could be - and then by noon the clouds rolled in and by 2:30 it was downright chilly with a harddriving rain and again by 3 the rain had tapered off to occasional drops and the sun was starting to shine again. Oh, this Sequim weather has very unpredictable moments!

By suppertime, the skies were blue -with a bit of a breeze. The three mallards had begun their evening's walk from yard to yard, and it was as splendiferous a day as the early sunrise had promised!

A Springtime phenomenon is the increase in the number of garage and yard sales in the area. Perhaps it is connected to Spring-cleaning, or Americans' penchant for moving, but I have noticed a large increase in the garage sales section of the Sequim Gazette. They are always fun to visit, especially in a place like Sequim where so many of us older residents attempt to downsize every now and then - the kids really don't want all our stuff....

There are also three thrift stores in the downtown area.

  • The Hospital Guild runs the one in the little white house at 2nd and Bell. They have raised more than one million dollars for the Hospital!

  • The Museum and Arts center runs a newly-renovated consignment shop on Cedar St between N Sequim and 2nd. These profits go back into the new Museum building fund.

  • and Serenity House runs the large store at North Sequim St. in the 200 block. They help local people who need a little assistance- so purchases there come right back into the community.

On the Sequim area Calendar for this April:

Mother Goose is missing this year- these are last year's photos. Father Goose used to patrol the pond and the surrounding area for intruders. There have been geese nesting here for at least 9 years now! The same ones? It would seem so. Without Mother Goose, there will be no babies this year. How sad! On patrol: Father goose is relentless in his pursuit interlopers.
The ducks call this neighborhood their own, too.
