Sunday at noon we decided to redeem my birthday gift - a certificate to decorate my own choice of ceramic-ware. Gail picked me up and we headed out Benson Blvd to the studio/store, in the Metro Mall area.
Inside the store, we were told to choose the piece we would paint, and select the colors we would use. Bereft of a specific concept, we browsed through several magazines and clippings of ideas. Ideas took shape; we selected the colors and the soupmugs, and got to work. Gail decided on sponging the background color; I would keep mine plain, but paint roses and try out the concept I had learned in Sherry Crocker's class, of multiloading the paintbrush. We'll see if it turns out the way I envisioned, next Saturday when we pick up the mugs.

I remember that Nancy and Tippi's mother, Elsie Rounds, used to paint bisqueware in that very special "Pennsylvania Dutch" style - and wish that I still had the weddingplate she made for me 43 years ago... It may be gone, but it's never been forgotten.
