A winter's afternoon class

- glass blowing!

It has been a blustery, snowy week here in Anchorage. I was gone for a few days to California for Mom's birthday and came back to more snow - no surprise there.

On Sunday afternoons the Alaska Glass Studio on King Street holds classes/demos in art- glass- blowing. Four of us went this afternoon to find out about this spectacular form of art.

a beautiful gold/blue creation

Brenda watches her lump of molten glass take shape Gail watches as color chips are added to her molten glass

The furnace is always "on", holding the molten glass ready for use by the skilled artisans. Color chips are added to the molten glass by rolling the glass through them, on the metal table. They are then fused into the glass with a few more seconds in the furnace.

Cheryl blows into the hose as the instructor tells her More, a little more, gently,...now stop!

We were just the source of air for the blowing portion of the creation of our ornaments today. And oh they were so beautiful when they were finished... They are now cooling slowly - so they don't crack- and we will pick them up tomorrow.

MY beautiful Blue Twist globe! It is tomorrow now; all the ornaments have been given to their creators. Here is my Blue Twist:
