Frosty Holiday Trees are stacked awaiting the *Chipper* - all to be turned into
mulch and recycled.
The Bike Path by the Lagoon is now covered with snow, and the skiers are using
it. Cyclers braving the winter, and hikers also use that path. No motorized
vehicles are allowed on the trail.
Once the Ice on downtown's Westchester Lagoon freezes deep enough, the City
maintains an ice skating area, by hot-mopping. The few remaining waterfowl
congregate by the open leads near the Inlet.>
Parking can mean a bit of a walk as places near the benches fill up
early. This is not exclusively a family skating area. Many groups also gather
here. The curlers bring their brooms and stones; the hockey players their gear.
The speed skating racing track is to the outside and the central area is for
the other activities - hockey, curling, and figure skating. Generally
Saturday afternoons are great for this family fun - and today was wonderful -
temperature in the 20s, thus not unbearably cold, and overcast - keeping the
area "warm" - that's a relative term.
While over in the Dimond Mall there's an indoor rink at which future Tara
Lipinskis practise their craft under the watchful eyes of their teachers.
And practise. And practise.
And for those without skates, a plastic sled and a hill is all you need!
Age is not a restricting factor here.
