December 31, 1999 - Anchorage New Year's Eve Party! *2000 Night of Lights Celebrations* |

Anchorage is having a 15 block (plus the Fifth Avenue Mall) New Years' Eve Celebration This year.
Opening Ceremonies will start at 5 p.m. and continue with a candlelight Walk. Shuttle busses will pick up people at park-and ride- lots at West High, East High, Bartlett High, and the Midtown and Dimond Walmarts every 10 minutes as there will not be much parking in Downtown. That 15 -block area will be closed to vehicle traffic anyway.
You'll have to show your admission button to get into many of the special events - The $8 button can be bought at Carr's or Williams' Express outlets all over town. But what a bargain!
At the Performing arts center there are 5 stages: and something is going on at every one of them, shows changing every hour or so. In the ARCO building there are two stages with dancers, music and roaming artsts. The Egan Center has 6 Rooms (both levels) including the Celtic Community New Year's Celebration with bagpipers and dancing. There's also Dancing in the Band Room down on the lower level.
And at the First United Methodist Church on Ninth Avenue & H, there will be Music from the City's Church choirs, until 10 p.m.
Bring a Drum! "Drum in the new Century during the Night of Light Millenium Drumming event from 11:00 p.m. to Midnight, featuring the especially--constructed Millenium Drum, and the King Island Dancers."
There will be drumming in several of the auditoriums/ballrooms as the hands of the clock edge toward midnight:
There will be fireworks shows on the hour, every hour.
Many many people have worked hard to unify this celebration and bring in the
New year and 21st Century with something that everyone can enjoy.
